| 内容記述 | 本稿は言語学の語彙研究成果を概観し、認知言語学が英語教育に与える影響について考察するものである。語彙習得の問題は、外国語を学習する上で避けて通ることができない。この問題に対し、伝統的な言語学はその下位部門である形態論と語彙意味論の研究成果を効果的に利用することを示唆してきた。形態論は語の内部構造と語形式の過程を記述し、語彙意味論は特定の語が感覚関係で他の語とともに意味のネットワークを形成しているということを例証している。加えて、我々は言語使用者である人間の存在を忘れてはならない。外界に対して、主体的に「意味づけの営み」を行う人間の生得的な特性は、言語の本質に大きな影響を及ぼしているはずだからである。言語とは、人間の身体的特性とともに、概念・思考・行動と密接な間係にあり、教室で伝えられている無機質な「科目」よりずっとダイナミックな性質のものなのである。認知言語学は、人間の認知活動に言語の本質を求めるパラダイムとして注目されている。これまで教室で教えられてきたことに対し、認知言語学なら理由を与えることができるであろう。言語の本質に迫る過程において、その使用者たる人間の主体性を認めることこそ、言語学が学問体系に確固たる地位を得る方法であると信じる。語学教育の現場で、教員は「言語の知識」を通じて学習者にさまざまなことを伝えている。その際、日常的に関わりを余儀なくされる周辺的な要因によって、しばしば本質的なことを見落とすことがある。つまり、「何を、いつまでに教えるのか」にとらわれ、「どのようにその知識を伝えるのか」を軽視してしまうのである。また、カリキュラムの関係上、別々な能力として開発されているものを統合する機会がもてない状況にある。そうした中にあっても、学習者に言語に関する知識をより広く伝えるために、より効果的な指導方法が求められている。そして、それは理論に裏打ちされた、体系だったプログラムのもとで実践されるべき授業であると考える。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | "This paper aims to survey some linguistic research on vocabulary, and to demonstrate a basic idea; that is, the cognitive linguistic knowledge can give the positive contribution not a little to the teaching and learning English as a foreign language in Japan. As for vocabulary, linguistics provides two relevant disciplines. Morphology illustrates the internal structure of words and the process of word-formation. That is how the conceptual stratum of sound, form, and meaning comes to be realised as a word. Lexical-semantics provides theory that the meaning of word is associated with the other words in terms of the sense relation. In many cases, the great effort into the linguistic research on vocabulary is unfortunately regarded as the restriction or rules in language use. However, the fact is that language is much more dynamic in its nature than what has been taught, so that the dynamicity should be emphasized in the context of Japanese education. Then, how? Cognitive linguistic research would suggest that it is important to involve the nature of human being in language study, considering the human cognitive activity as what provides the reason for the linguistic data. By this, language teachers can explain both the internal structure of a word that would be motivated in many cases rather than arbitrary, and the external structure of the word as the network of meaning in a certain semantic field." | |||||
